February 2019 Tips - Driver's License Scanning

Driver's License Scanning

With optional scanners, In-Synch RMS has the ability to search for existing (or add new) person records from data encoded in driver's license barcodes. Utilization of barcode scanners can significantly reduce duplication and erroneous data entries. Any license encoded with the "American Associations of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) North American Standard" can be searched (or added) in the Person Management module of the RMS. Note: Scanners must be configured to use the "US Keyboard" drivers to be compatible with the RMS.

1. To perform a driver's license barcode scan, open Person Management from the main RMS toolbar.

2. From the Person Management search window, scan the license barcode. Note: Make sure that the cursor is in the last name field before scanning.

3. A driver's license scan box will appear and the data from the barcode will be parsed into the RMS.

4. If matching records are found, the search results grid will open. If no matching records are found, the user can save the new person record.

The amount of data encoded in the barcode can vary by state and may include:

  • Last Name

  • First Name

  • Middle Name

  • Suffix

  • DOB

  • Gender

  • Height

  • Weight

  • Hair Color

  • Eye Color

  • Address

  • City

  • State

  • Zip

  • Driver's License State

  • Driver's License Number

  • Driver's License Expiration

  • Classes

  • Restrictions

  • Endorsements
