August 2019 Tips - Microsoft will be ending support of Windows 7 and Server 2008

After January 14th, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008.

End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance. Microsoft will not fix vulnerabilities in the operating system that are discovered after this date. Furthermore, Microsoft will no longer offer any support for the operating system. It won’t be long before those systems are specifically targeted and exploited.

What happens if I continue to use Windows 7/Server 2008 after January 14th?

You can continue to use Windows 7/Server 2008, but once support ends, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks. Windows will operate, but you will stop receiving security and feature updates from Microsoft.

Due to the risk of vulnerability, we at In-Synch Systems highly recommend your agency considers upgrading any Windows 7/Server 2008 machines to Windows 10/Server 2016 (or 2019) before the January 14th deadline. That way, you remain on an operating system that will receive security and feature updates from Microsoft.
